Llantwit Major travelled to Cwmbran Celtic for this return League fixture after another 2-week break determined to avenge the narrow one goal defeat they suffered at home last September.
Llantwit applied pressure from the kick off and within 30 seconds of play were awarded a penalty when Jonathan Fletcher was upended in the goal area by a Cwmbran defender. Anthony Rawlings coolly converted the penalty, and this was probably Llantwit’s quickest goal in the club’s history. Llantwit kept up the pressure and in the 12th minute had a golden opportunity to increase their lead when Dale Stephenson met a cross into the goal area from Anthony Rawlings out on the right wing, but he headed wide from around 8 yards out. A minute later Llantwit were indebted to their keeper Jack Lansdown when he pulled off a fine save from the Cwmbran striker from around 15 yards out. In the 18th minute Llantwit thought they had increased their lead when Dale Stephenson was put through on goal to score but his effort was ruled offside by the linesman. However, in the 34th minute Llantwit increased their lead when this time some fine interplay between Rob Jones and Anthony Rawlings and then a cross into the Cwmbran goal area by Rawlings saw Dale Stephenson meet the cross on the half volley to shoot home to score from around 10 yards out. A minute later Llantwit had a chance to score a 3rd goal when Jonathan Fletcher was put through one on one with the Cwmbran keeper, but his shot was well saved. Half time arrived with Llantwit well in control, of the game leading 0-2.
Cwmbran were determined to get back into the game and applied some early pressure and Jack Lansdowne had to pull off another fine save in 55th minute to push away a shot from around 30 yards out for a Cwmbran corner. A minute later Llantwit had another opportunity to extend their lead again, when again from a Rawlings cross out wide on the right wing into the Cwmbran 6-yard box was met by Josh Jones but he mistimed his header from a few yards out and missed the target.
These missed chances came back to haunt Llantwit when Cwmbran pulled a goal back in the 58th minute when their striker Chris Ham was allowed to dribble past a few defenders into the area and shoot from around 15 yards out to score in the far-right hand corner. Cwmbran maintained the pressure, but again it was Llantwit who could have scored next, but for the intervention of the goal post firstly from a corner by Rob Jones whose cross hit the far post and the ball rebounded to Kristian Evans only to see him hit the same post with his shot.
In the 78th minute Cwmbran were level when it was again their striker Chris Ham who scored when he was allowed to turn in the Llantwit goal area and shoot from around 8 yards out to score.
However, Llantwit managed to regroup and in the 83rd minute regained the lead when a pass by Kristian Smith found Connor Goldsworthy out wide on the left-hand side of the Cwmbran goal area and as the Cwmbran goalkeeper approached him he coolly lobbed the advancing keeper to score. Llantwit finally secured victory in the 93rd minute when it was Connor again who scored his second goal when he was put through by a pass from Rawlings to break the offside trap and shoot past the advancing keeper to score Llantwit’s 4th.
Llantwit will be very pleased with this fine away win after another 2 weeks inactivity from football and the well earned 3 points now moves them up the League table into 9th position. Llantwit’s next League game will be home at Windmill Lane on Saturday 19th January 2019 against Cwmamman United with a 2.00 pm kick off.

Llantwit Major welcomed Cwmamman Utd for this return League fixture looking to avenge the narrow defeat they suffered at Cwmamman earlier in the season.
Llantwit were nearly behind in the opening 3 minutes when the Cwmamman left wing broke through on goal and Jack Lansdown in the Llantwit goal made a tremendous save to deny Cwmamman the lead.
It was not until the 15th minute when Llantwit created their first opportunity when Dale Stephenson broke down the right wing and his subsequent cross into Rob Jones was headed wide from 6 yards out. Cwmamman then created another opportunity to score a few minutes later when some fine counter attacking led to the Cwmamman striker meeting a cross into the Llantwit goal area and Jack Lansdowne was again called upon to tip the subsequent shot over the crossbar for a corner. In the 25th minute Llantwit spurned a golden opportunity when again a fine passing movement led to Rob Jones crossing the ball into the back post for Dale Stephenson who was unmarked, but his subsequent header hit the crossbar with the Cwmamman keeper beaten. Llantwit maintained the pressure but on the half hour mark they were caught by a real sucker punch when a long clearance out of defence found the Cwmamman striker unmarked some 40 yards from goal and as Jack Lansdown came rushing out of his goal, he calmly shot past him to score. Llantwit immediately responded and again a few minutes later they hit the woodwork again when a cross in from Jamie Miller was met by Anthony Rawlings at the near post, but his shot hit the post. Despite having the majority of the first half play Llantwit found themselves a goal down at halftime.
Llantwit immediately started the second half determined to equalise and some early pressure saw a shot from Rawlings go over the cross bar. The second half was mainly a repeat of the first half in that Llantwit had all the possession but their play in the final third was pretty woeful at times and when they did create any goalscoring opportunities they were unable to convert them. In the 79th minute, Llantwit were again indebted to goalie Jack Lansdown when he had to pull off another fine save to deny Cwmamman a second goal, whereas it was not until the 84th minute that the Cwmamman keeper was called upon to make his first fine save from a shot by Ben Cripps from around 25 yards out that was on target. In the dying minutes Llantwit had another opportunity to equalise when the ball fell to Sean Williams from a corner, but he shot over from around 8 yards out.
Cwmamman held out to complete the double over Llantwit and Llantwit will be bitterly disappointed with this defeat after their last two away games have produced two wins. This game was a repeat of most of the games Llantwit have played so far this season in that at this level of football unless you convert the chances that you are creating then your opponents will punish you and this again was the case with this defeat at home to Cwmamman Utd.
Llantwit Major: Jack Lansdown, Jamie Miller, Kristian Evans (Kristian Smith 59), Sean Williams, Connor Goldsworthy, Darren Robinson (Captain), Jonathan Fletcher, Mike Hartley (Ben Cripps 67), Rob Jones, Anthony Rawlings, Dale Stephenson (Lee Jones 37);
